Extra shelters open during extreme weather conditions from November 1 to March 31.

There are two emergency shelters in the Friendship Place network:

• a shelter for men at St. Luke's United Methodist Church
• a shelter for women at Community of Christ Church

There are also additional shelters throughout the DC area. Check the DC Department of Human Services for daytime and evening shelter locations when the weather is below freezing.

If you see someone outside in bad weather who is in need of care, please call the Shelter Hotline at 1-800-535-7252. The Hotline will send a van to check on the person, provide blankets, and encourage him or her to come to a shelter.
